The Lord of the Rings

The Lord of the Rings is the epic story created by J.R.R Tolkien who is regarded by many as the greatest writer of the 20^th Century.  This page will show a very limited timeline of the events that happened throughout the period 3018-3019 in Middle-Earth which covers the main story of Middle-earth and to the world is known as The Lord of the Rings.

3018 Apr 12  Gandalf goes to Hobbiton to look for frodo.  Gandalf, who had been in Minas Tirith undertaking research into the One Ring and who, in the process, has read Isildur's scroll, returns to Hobbiton with urgent news for Frodo

3018 Jun 20  Gollum escapes Thranduil in Mirkwood. Gollum, who, following his release from Barad-dur, had been brought before Thranduil in Mirkwood, escapes as Thranduil is attacked

3018 Jun 20  The War of the Ring begins. Osgiliath in Gondor attacked

3018 Jun 30  Gandalf leaves Hobbiton for Isengard    

3018 Jul 4  Boromir leaves for Rivendell    

3018 Jul 20  Gandalf imprisoned in Orthanc by Saruman    

3018 Jul 20  The Nazgul travel to the Shire    

3018 Sep 18  Gandalf rescued from Orthanc .  The eagle Gwaihir rescues Gandalf from Orthanc and takes him to Edoras.     

3018 Sep 19  Gandalf comes to Edoras    

3018 Sep 22  Frodo's Birthday party    

 

3018 Sep 23  Gandalf tames Shadowfax and rides to Hobbiton    

3018 Sep 23  A Nazgul arrives at Hobbiton    

3018 Sep 23  The Hobbits leave Hobbiton    

3018 Sep 25  The hobbits re-unite in Crickhollow    

3018 Sep 26  Old Man Willow and Tom Bombadil    

3018 Sep 28  Captured by Barrow-wight    

3018 Sep 29  Gandalf reaches Hobbiton  and talks to the Gaffer    

3018 Sep 29  The Hobbits arrive at Bree, Meet Strider . Frodo and company reach Bree at night and get rooms at the Prancing Pony. They encounter Strider for the first time. The hobbits survive an attack upon the Prancing Pony but wake to find their ponies are missing. They acquire another pony, Bill, from Bill Ferny at an inflated price and leave Bree with Strider early in the morning. Frodo's house at Crickhollow is also raided.    

 3018 Sep 30  Hobbits and Strider leave Bree    

 3018 Oct 3 Gandalf leaves Bree and is attacked on Weathertop    

 3018 Oct 6  Camp is attacked at night. Frodo is wounded.    

3018 Oct 9  Glorfindel leaves Rivendell  Word has reached Elrond that Frodo and his companions are bearing a great burden without guidance and Glorfindel, a high-ranking elf who resides in Rivendell, sets out to search for them.    

3018 Oct 11  Glorfindel encounters Black Riders - Glorfindel encounters three Black Riders at the Bridge of Mitheithel and drives them away. He then comes upon two others and drives them southward. He picks up the trail of Frodo's company.
